Reenroll in College

OPC Hosts Degree Completion Day on June 26

Perfect for adults who have already earned some credits

Did you earn some college credits but leave college without a degree? Come to Degree Completion Day at the Rhode Island Nursing Education Center, 350 Eddy Street, Providence, on Wednesday, June 26, between noon and 6:00 p.m. to get free one-on-one assistance with reenrollment. Experts from the Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner will be available to advise about resources to address common barriers to degree completion, such as transferring credits, technology, FAFSA confusion, child care, transportation, and more. Local colleges with in-person enrollment representation will include College Unbound, Community College of Rhode Island, New England Institute of Technology, Rhode Island College, and University of Rhode Island.

“Sometimes life gets in the way of dreams. We get it. Here is an opportunity for students to talk to college reps about reversing specific barriers that interfere with degree completion,” said Shannon Gilkey, Ed.D., commissioner of postsecondary education in Rhode Island. “In addition to what the colleges can offer, our Rhode Island Reconnect program has resources that enhance the institutions’ efforts to provide students with the support they need to return to school and be successful.”

This event is a good match for adults who do not have a degree but have earned some credits. Because the goal is to leave the event reenrolled in college, attendees will get personalized help on what will be required to graduate at their former college as well as any help needed in order to complete the FAFSA.

This is a free event, with free parking at South Street Landing Garage at 330 Eddy Street. For more details or to preregister, click here.

Funding for the event and program execution are made possible through the efforts of Senator Jack Reed, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, and the Rhode Island General Assembly. This project is supported, in whole or in part, by federal award number SLFRP0136 awarded to the Rhode Island Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
